• 2.0 out of 5 stars from Kindle Customer -- Unique storyline : I gave this rating because this was a unique storyline. You didn't know immediately how it would end. But, in the past several years, there has been an element of constant repeating of the same details. It feels like nothing but filler. I would rather she not put out as many books every year and have quality. The books she put out 20+ years ago were much higher in quality. I think I might quit buying them for a while. I actually forgot that I had not finished the book. It ended exactly as I knew it would. It was as though she ran out of space and had to wrap up the book quickly in a few paragraphs. I never could get a feel for Joachim as a butler anyway. I didn't care about Olivia. Besides that, who creates their own magazine and then loses it after 10 years - decides to go to Paris on an extended stay with no income? Its just so unbelievable. Then even though she is not an interior designer, a million dollar job falls in her lap! The book was dull and unexciting. I just didn't care for any of the characters. I was getting discouraged, but her last few books have renewed my faith in her as a writer. She is still one of my favorites. If you haven't read any of her books start with this one! Danielle Steel can always be counted on to delve right into the heart of a character and with her signature ease of prose, she hooks her reader with the character's storyline early and unravels their life right before our eyes. Tales of Nazi war criminals and art theft and innocent family members trapped in their comes and shame. The bastard daughter of an illicit literary affair turned French decorator. A good twin and an evil mirror twin. A drug lord and a butler. Such an odd mix, but such an interesting and compelling mix of characters both good and bad woven throughout this twisty tale kept me reading through this one. I was a huge fan of Downton Abbey and knew this would catch my interest. The characters were easy to get attached to and having a male give his own story was very touching. The story is modern day and set at the end of butlers and full staffs. You will not be sorry. You will cheer them on in hopes of finding love and peace. • 5.0 out of 5 stars from Kindle Customer -- Story Full of Many Things : First, this is another great Danielle Steel book. A little intrigue, learning about one’s true feelings, taking chances, starting something new, and more. The main characters, Joachim and Olivia have quite a few of the same qualities, alike but different. Together they begin a relationship of employer/employee. Eventually they discover there are many similarities in each one’s background that has made them hold people at a distance. It’s interesting seeing how this works and how a small friendship develops. As usual, I didn’t want to put the book down. I never felt there was any “down” time or boring parts. Another one I’d recommend. ( Reviewed in the United States on October 22, 2021 )
